ISSDC SE :: MAY 14 :: REGIONAL SPRING POTLUCK PICNIC!

IT'S SPRING PICNIC TIME AGAIN!

We’re planning a bit early, there is still snow on the ground but we are THINKING Spring! And we all know with Spring comes our annual ISSDC SE Regional Spring Potluck Picnic.

WHAT: The ISSDC SE Region is holding its Spring Potluck Picnic on Saturday May 14th, 2011. Spend a day with your Shilohs and your fellow ISSDC SE members outside romping — fun, games, food and friendship; what more could you ask for.

Be sure to bring along chairs for you, and whatever you may need for an afternoon out with your Shilohs including water from home if your Shiloh has a sensitive tummy.

WHEN:
May 14, 2011 – begins @ 10am
Rain or shine

WHERE:
The ISSDC SE Regional Spring picnic is again graciously being hosted by Gloria and Darrel Setterlund of Noble Acres Shiloh Shepherds at their home in Locust Grove, VA. Please contact Gloria Setterlund or Marti Nottingham for directions or if you have any questions on the location.

WHY:
Because it is a whole lot of fun! This is a great opportunity to meet other Shiloh Shepherd owners (and usually a lot of them), sit and relax and have fun with your dog. Your Shilohs are welcome and we encourage you to bring them, it’s great socialization for them too! The Setterlund’s property is perfect for dogs and we let them off leash as they get to run on her 12 fenced acres. Noble Acres is fenced private property but we remind you to be aware of your Shiloh at all times.

This picnic is one of our most anticipated events each year as we always have a great time.

HOW MUCH:
The picnic is pot luck so we ask you either bring a dish to share or, if you’re not the cooking type, we have collected donations toward the cost of food and/or other necessities in the past. There will shortly be a sign up sheet circulating and you will be able to find it on the ISSDC SE Yahoo Group or contact Marti Nottingham for further information and/or to sign up.

ISSDC SE :: FEBRUARY 27 :: PLAYDATE

ISSDC SE REGIONAL LET SPRING BE HERE PARTY/PLAYDATE

Are you done with this cold weather and snow, sleet and ice? Ready for Spring and warm weather to be here already? In an effort to bring in the warm weather and bring on the fun we are having a party and playdate. So bring your warm weather thoughts, an appetizer or dessert dish to pass, a chair for you and a dog or two!

WHAT: The ISSDC SE Region is holding a “Bring in the Spring” party and playdate on February 27, 2011. It will be at our usual place as the Dog School of Leesburg has again generously lent us use of their facility!

WHEN:
February 27 – begins @ 12:00pm

WHERE:
The party and playdate will be held at the Dog School of Leesburg facilities. Many of you are familiar with this facility now as this is the same place we’ve held some previous events. It is always wonderful to be able to have the dogs there with us.

Dog School of Leesburg
305 E Market Street
Leesburg, VA 20176

Please contact Marti Nottingham for directions or if you have any questions on the location.

WHY:
Just ‘cuz. We are always up for a playdate and maybe a“warm weather” dance or two will help! Your Shilohs are welcome (and honorary Shilohs too)! We encourage you to bring them but we remind you to be aware of your dog(s) at all times. There are plenty of exercise pens, rooms with doors and windows where you can keep an eye on things and even crates in the back should there be some misbehavin’ and a timeout is in order.

Please also bring along a chair or two for the humans attending and don’t forget any supplies you might need for your dog such as water.

HOW MUCH:
No charge ... just your time, and a potluck dish to share! It seems like appetizers and desserts are on the menu—so bring your favorite dessert or appetizer dish to share!

ISSDC SE :: NOVEMBER 7-8, 2009 :: AHBA HERDING TRIAL

A WOOLIES HERDING WE WILL GO!

WHAT:
Join us for a fun-filled weekend watching your Shiloh's natural herding ability brought out. Members of the ISSDC SE region have been taking lessons at Keeptstone Farm in Berryville Virginia, since Spring and want to extend a paw to all Shilohs to come on out and try, along side them, their hand at herding at this AHBA Sanctioned Trial.

There will be two test classes (HCT, JHD) and three trial level classes (HTD I, II, III, HTAD I, II, III and HRD I, II, III). What this means is that your Shiloh, with never having seen sheep but knowing how to sit and come, can earn a title in one weekend; two times in the ring and that is all! We had several Shiloh Shepherds do just that last year at the trial.

Although this trial is in VA, we welcome and encourage all Shiloh Shepherds (and their owners) to attend if they wish to!

WHEN:
Saturday November 7th – Sunday November 8th, 2009
8:00 am Sharp until all runs are complete each day

WHERE:
Keepstone Farm
2412 Russell Road
Berryville, VA
Outdoors, Rain or Shine

WHY:
Our own SE Region members Nottingham Shilohs, in conjunction with Keepstone Farm, are sponsoring the event. We encourage novice and advanced herders to come out to the trial. For the novice herder, watching the natural instinct kick in is such a thrill. If your dog is at least six months old, and of sound health, you can have them instinct tested. If they pass, they will receive a Herding Instinct Certificate (HIC) from Keepstone Farm and will also receive AHBA credit for their first leg toward their title, the HCT1 Sheep. Dogs younger than six months can test for the HIC with permission from Keepstone but will not receive AHBA credit.

HOW MUCH:
Registration is now open and slots are filling fast.
Pre-entry (received before October 20, 2009) is $42/run/dog for all classes
Regular entry (received on or after October 21, 2009) is $46/run/dog for all classes

Download the Informational Herding Packet

Or you may contact Marti Nottingham directly if you have further questions.

HAPPY HERDING!

ISSDC SE :: APRIL / MAY / JUNE / JULY :: GROUP HERDING LESSONS

ADDITIONAL GROUP HERDING LESSON DATES ADDED FOR MAY, JUNE AND JULY!

Our ISSDC SE Region members have been having such a great time taking their group herding lessons that additional dates have been arranged and added to the schedule!

WHAT: Members of the ISSDC SE Region are taking group herding lessons at Keepstone Farm for their Shiloh Shepherds from Susan Rhodes. If you attended the ISSDC Herding Trial last November you will be familiar with Keepstone Farm and Susan. For those unfamiliar, Keepstone Farm is where the Fab Five Shilohs (who earned AHBA acceptance/recognition for the Shiloh Shepherd breed) trained.

Members are getting together as a "group," however, lessons are taken per individual dog, are hands on and are 20 minutes long per dog. If you are interested in attending, want to reserve a spot or have any questions, please contact Marti Nottingham for further information and/or clarification.

WHEN:
April 26 – lessons begin @ 1pm
May 9th – lessons begin @ 11 am
May 31st – lessons begin @ 10 am
June 13th – lessons begin @ 10 am
June 20th – lessons begin @ 9 am
July 18th – lessons begin @ 10 am

WHERE:
Keepstone Farm, 412 Russell Road, Berryville, VA.
From Rt 660, go 3/10 mile, turn Right at large Keepstone Farm sign (Dog Gone Healthy sign below). Follow farm lane to left turn at #412, and go to end of Driveway.
Keepstone Farm website: http://www.keepstonefarm.com/

WHY:
Well, to see your Shilohs turn on, work and hone their instincts. Folks may come out and check out a lesson first to decide if they would like to try their hand at herding. Secondly, who ever needs an excuse to get together with other Shiloh Shepherd owners! But all dog breeds are welcome — just contact Marti Nottingham to reserve your spot.

Hoping to have a herding trial in the fall to show off everything we've all learned!

HOW MUCH:
Our group rate is $25 for a 20 minute lesson.

This is a great opportunity to take lessons in a laid back, fun environment all the while enjoying the camaraderie of other Shiloh owners.
