ISSDC SE :: DECEMBER 12 :: ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY

ISSDC SE REGIONAL HOLIDAY PARTY!

Buon Natale! It's time for the annual ISSDC SE Regional Holiday Party!

WHAT: The ISSDC SE Region is holding it's Annual Holiday Party on December 12th. Again, this year's event allows you to bring your dogs with you! It is also a potluck luncheon with an Italian theme, so please bring a dish to pass with some of your favorite Italian flavors!

WHEN:
Sunday December 12 – begins @ noon

WHERE:
The Annual ISSDC SE Regional Holiday Party is graciously being hosted at the Dog Day Afternoon/Dog School of Leesburg facilities again this year.

Dog Day Afternoon/Dog School of Leesburg
305 E Market St #A
Leesburg, VA 20176

Please contact Marti Nottingham for directions or if you have any questions on the location.

WHY:
This annual event is always a lot of fun, and the holidays are best when spent with friends and family. We always have a fun time at the party so if you know of someone who is thinking about getting a shiloh, or wants to know more about the breed, feel free to bring them along. Your dogs are welcome and we encourage you to bring them. This is a shiloh event but don't leave your shilohs' brother or sister at home, bring them along. We do want to remind you to be aware of your dog(s) at all times. There are plenty of exercise pens, rooms with doors and windows where you can keep an eye on things and even crates in the back should a canine misbehave and need a timeout. Please bring along a chair or two for the humans attending.

Also, bring along any ideas you want to see your shiloh club do in the coming year. We are always looking for fun new things to do with our dogs and would love to get some new ideas.

HOW MUCH:
The holiday party is pot luck so we ask you to bring a dish to share. We are going with an Italian theme for the food. There is a sign up sheet circulating and you can find it on the ISSDC SE Yahoo Group or you can contact Marti Nottingham for further information and/or to sign up.

We also agreed to do the gift exchange this year. If you would like to participate please bring a wrapped gift valued around $10 for each player.

We are also collecting donations for the Pet Pantry of Loudoun again this year. Please bring a donation of dog/cat food, blankets, treats and toys.

Entering Canada with a Dog or Dogs

Domestic or pet dogs may enter Canada if accompanied by an original valid rabies vaccination certificate, which is issued by a licensed veterinarian (a veterinarian who is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the country of origin) in English or French and which clearly identifies the dogs and states that they are currently vaccinated against rabies.

This certificate should identify the animal as in breed, color, weight, etc., and indicate the name of the licensed rabies vaccine used (trade name), including serial number and duration of validity (up to three years). Please note that if the duration of validity is not indicated on the certificate, the vaccine will be considered to be valid for one year.

There is no waiting period imposed between the time the animal is vaccinated for rabies and the time the animal is imported into Canada.

Rabies vaccination or certification is not required if the dogs are less than three (3) months of age.

If you frequently import dogs or import several dogs at one time, you may be asked to certify that they are your personal pets and that they are not for resale.

Commercial breeders can import dogs under eight (8) months of age (without an import permit) on a temporary basis for entry in competitions if they can provide an inspector with proof that the dog is entered in a show or trial organized by a recognized association. Valid rabies certification is also required.

Pet dogs over the age of 8 months that are traveling to Canada by air may require a health certificate. Contact your airline carrier for additional information on their requirements.

ISSDC SE REGIONAL SPRING POTLUCK PICNIC!

IT'S PICNIC TIME AND WE CAN'T WAIT!

It's that time of year again ... Spring has sprung and you know what that means. Why yes, it's time for our annual ISSDC SE Regional Spring Potluck Picnic.

And this year there will be CGC testing available as well if you want to run your dog through!

WHAT: The ISSDC SE Region is holding it's Spring Potluck Picnic on May 22nd. Spend a fun day with your Shilohs and your fellow ISSDC SE members outside romping — there will be fun, games, food and friendship; what more could you ask for.

Be sure to bring along chairs for you, and whatever you may need for an afternoon out with your Shilohs.

WHEN:
May 22 – begins @ 9am
Rain or shine

WHERE:
The ISSDC SE Regional Spring picnic is again graciously being hosted by Gloria and Darrel Setterlund of Noble Acres Shiloh Shepherds at their home in Locust Grove, VA. Please contact Gloria Setterlund or Marti Nottingham for directions or if you have any questions on the location.

WHY:
This should be a lot of fun and a great time to meet other shiloh owners and to sit and relax and have fun with your dog. Your Shilohs are welcome and we encourage you to bring them. Gloria's yard is perfect for dogs and we let them off leash as they get to run in her 12 fenced acres. Noble Acres is fenced private property but we remind you to be aware of your Shiloh at all times.

This picnic is one of our most anticipated events each year as we always have a grand time.

HOW MUCH:
The picnic is pot luck so we ask you either bring a dish to share or, if you're not the cooking type, we have collected donations toward the cost of food and/or other necessities in the past. There will shortly be a sign up sheet circulating and you will be able to find it on the ISSDC SE Yahoo Group or contact Marti Nottingham for further information and/or to sign up.

The cost of CGC testing is $5 per dog (this does not include cost of sending in completed paperwork/test by owner to receive certificate upon passing).

ISSDC SE :: MAY 16 :: GROUP DOG WALK

WHAT A BARKING GRAND DAY OUT, OUR FIRST GROUP DOG WALK!

We've talked about a group dog walk before but now we have a date, location and guide! So put on your walking shoes and bring out your Shilohs for a walk around Blandy Experimental Farm in Virginia.

WHAT: Some ISSDC SE Regional members are getting together for a group walk at Blandy Experimental Farm. Laure Wallace will be leading us around a beautiful two mile walk around the park. Please remember to bring poop bags and water.

WHEN:
May 16 – 2pm 'til ?

WHERE:
Our May 16 walk will be a tour of Blandy Experimental Farm. Blandy Experimental Farm is a 700-acre field station run by the University of Virginia in the northern Shenandoah Valley about 10 miles east of Winchester and 60 miles west of Washington DC.

Our walk will be approximately two miles. This is a living museum and although leashed dogs are welcome at the park, let's put out best face forward and be mindful of our dogs behavior and pick up after them.

Park Websites:
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/vbwt/site.asp?trail=2&loop=MFR&site=MFR06
http://www.virginia.edu/blandy/map.html

WHY:
Get out and enjoy Spring with your Shilohs and some of the Shenandoah Valley's native flowers. This is our first group dog walk and it should be a lot of fun with some beautiful scenery.

HOW MUCH:
The park has no entry fee and is open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year.

ISSDC NE :: MAY 2 :: BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ANIMALS

... the "Blessing of the Animals" to be exact!

WHAT: The 45th Annual "Interfaith" Blessing of the Animals at the Hammond Museum. Join some of our members and their Shilohs (and other animals) at this wonderful event. Plans are to arrive early, around 2pm, and to walk the garden grounds, socialize our dogs, introduce them to the public and take pictures—they don't call it a "Stroll Garden" for no reason. The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden are situated on a beautiful hilltop with wonderful views with breath-taking grounds.

For the ceremony, participants will follow bagpiper Kevin O'Hagen (and won't the Shilohs LOVE that ... do we hear howling? already!?!) as he leads the procession into the garden for a blessing by Native American Indian Wendell Deer with Horns of the Lakota Sioux, Rabbi Jason Nevarez of Temple Shaaray Tefila of Mt. Kisco, Father Jude of St. Josephs Church inCroton Falls, Zen Priest Jane Dai-on Shuman of Purchase; and Interfaith Minister Reverend Janice Arlene Rost from Pleasantville.

After the ceremony, there is a meet & greet, and you may receive individual blessings if requested.

Cats, dogs, birds, fish, turtles, etc. are welcome. Please have pets on a leash (or in a crate for some types of animals) and please be courteous and remember to pick up after your Shilohs. You may also want to bring chairs, refreshments, snacks and definitely water for your animals.

WHEN:
Sunday May 2nd
Procession/Ceremony begins at 3:00 pm
(some of us are planning to arrive early, around 2pm)

The event is rain or shine but the museum will provide a large tent for the ceremony should the weather not cooperate.

WHERE:

Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden
28 Deveau Road
North Salem, NY
(Westchester County, NY, 30 miles NE of White Plains, 15 miles SW of Danbury, CT)
Museum website: http://www.hammondmuseum.org

WHY:

Although not an event put on or sponsored by the ISSDC, some of our members are attending the event and thought it would be a great opportunity for breed education and awareness as well as a wonderful social function. Hopefully we can get a nice turnout of "local" Shilohs to not only be "blessed" but to meet the public! Of course, all Shilohs are welcome to join in on the fun local or not!

We already know how blessed we are to have these magnificent dogs in our life, now is your chance to have them "blessed" as well and have a dog gone good time doing it!

Our own Monica Popaduke has attended this event in the past, and will be attending this year as well, so please feel to contact her directly if you have further questions.

HOW MUCH:
There is no admission fee for this event, but if you attend and enjoy it we suggest making a modest donation to the museum in appreciation.
